Sheed's Nicknames

Rasheed Wallace has nicknames for each of his teammates on The Pistons. Check out the video. He's not the only one that thinks Stuckey resembles 50. He calls Maxiell "Darkness"... Aye yo?

Props to The Rap Up for the link.

A Couple of Good Links

It was bound to happen... Some artist made a portrait of Eminem made out of... M&M's.
Check out the link here. Apparently, the art was purchased by Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Sweet.

Our very own Angela Yee from Shade45's morning show is in the running for "Hottest Hip-Hop Gossip Girl". Click on this link to vote in her favor. Check out Angie on the Shade45 Morning Show every weekday 8am-12pm EST. There is no competition, Yee.

Almost Lost Detroit

Check out this video for Detroit hip-hop artist Marqise Porter's song "Almost Lost Detroit". This isn't a high budget slick video, just a collection of pictures showing the blight and despair in The D along with some bleak, sobering statistics. I thought this would be a good companion to run with the recent article I posted below about the potential automobile industry bail-out. Imagine, if you could, that the situation could get much worse even.

Thanks to Gluck for the link.

Shade45 Playlist

Since Shade45 is now available on both XM and Sirius Satellite Radio and our audience has more than doubled, I'm going to continue my campaign to draw more subscribers. We play the most uncensored hip-hop on radio anywhere in this country now, especially since 66 Raw on XM has become Shade45.
A lot of folks are under the mistaken impression that we play a majority of Eminem and Shady related material on our station. While we do favor that stuff (why wouldn't we) we support a lot more than just that. To demonstrate, here is our current active records playlist. I'll be posting these from time to time to make people aware of what's going on with Shade45.

Big 3 Bail-Out

For those of you who don't live in Michigan and may have a hard time understanding the impact that the auto-industry has on the local economy check out this article from today's Detroit Free Press. The bail out going before the Senate on Monday is critical to The Big 3 Automakers (GM, Ford & Chrysler). While I fully believe in free market economics the impact that the collapse of our original American industry would have on the nation would be devastating. Yes, I'm biased being from Detroit and living there part-time, but please read the article. It's more than just some old school businessmen who can't get it together to make a change in new times... It's the essence of this once thriving city and the core industry of this nation that hangs in the balance.
The photo above is an ode to the Ford family, which owns the Detroit Lions and obviously the majority of Ford Motor Company. Maybe a bail out can help the team? Nah, probably not.

Spartans Going Too Far?

In and around the Michigan State University campus, and I'm not sure where else, there is some organization called Biting Rivals that has put up billboards about University of Michigan's loss to the Spartans and their lost season. Please visit the ridiculous website by clicking here.
I'm a Spartan, but is all this really necessary? Ok, maybe...

Best Burgers in The D.

Today the Detroit Free Press published what I consider to be a cowardly list of the "Best Burgers in Metro Detroit". You can view the slideshow style listings here. I do appreciate the fact that the Freep (as it's known here on the web) is writing about things like hamburgers, I really do. However the list has several problems. First, it is way too broad in it's categories- "Best Old-School Burgers", "Best Loaded Burgers", "Best High-End Burgers", "Best Alternative Burgers", "Other Burgers Not to Miss"... A burger is a beef burger, unless it's a turkey or chicken or some other beef burger and it doesn't belong in this discussion anyway. What the hell is the difference between an "old school" and a "high-end burger" other than where they are served and what the ingredients are? All we care about is which tastes better. If you are going to make sub-categories for these lists how can you not include a "Best Sliders" section? This is DETROIT the HOME of GREASE.
The list is cowardly because it's too broad. It should be a 20 item list tops. It's also cowardly because it lists Miller's Bar in Dearborn first. Don't get me wrong, they serve a hell of a burger there. But it's the obvious choice. I mean, even national publications like GQ listed it as one of the top burgers in America.
Be brave, be strong, be original.
Finally, the fact that the Big Chief at Duggan's and that Hunter House are listed as "Others" is a travesty. Finally, my family and childhood favorite Greens's Hamburgers in Farmington didn't even make the list. I call bullshit.

Commitment, Regression & Recycling

Last Saturday I was fortunate enough to make it to Ann Arbor, MI for the annual intra-state rivalry between the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State Spartans. I went to MSU along with my brother. 90% of the rest of my family including my mother and my sister went to U of M. I probably have 30 (not exaggerating) cousins that went to U of M, and hardly any that went to State.
So every year I make an effort (have gone to the last three) to make it to either Ann Arbor or East Lansing, Michigan for the big rivalry.
There is one major problem with Big 10 college football- the league rules don't allow for any drinking inside stadiums and arenas. I guess they think that it curbs unacceptable behavior and public displays of stupidity, nudity, drunkenness, or otherwise. What I see, though, is an opposite effect. Thousands of people gather in various parking lots and/or fields around the stadiums for a tailgate party. This generally leads to people getting super loaded before the game because they know they can't have anything to drink when they get inside. This leads to many folks really overdoing it, hence the regression. Grown-ass men and women really acting like children or teenagers at best. I'm talking jell-O shots, keg stands, passing out, etc. What I notice the most is that people forget how to be drunk, like they don't remember how to keep their wits about them when drinking because they are out of practice. I saw a 40 year old woman fall on her ass. I saw a 50 year old man doing a keg stand. Maybe if they let people buy a drink or two inside then they wouldn't have to get so wasted before kick-off.

Now, on to the game. My boy Mikey hooked us up with field passes which allow you to go anywhere on the sidelines of the game to watch. This is every football fan's fantasy and I felt like a little kid out there. Truly amazing. The Spartans hung in there for there first victory in Ann Arbor in like 20 years, and it's my first time seeing them win a game against U of M in-person. Commitment, folks.
The thing about the state of Michigan that most people learned from an old Seinfeld episode is that it's the only state that gives 10 cents back on can deposits. So when you go to buy a six-pack, they charge you 60 cents extra, hoping you will bring the cans back and do the environment a favor and recycle. Most people at the tailgates just throw the cans anywhere and this leads to professional recyclers running around the game collecting cans to get cash. It's probably pretty lucrative actually, 10 cans are a buck. These guys probably make a couple of hundred dollars per game from it. Recycling.
Next thing to note is that the teams play in this annual game for an unofficial tournament trophy. It's called The Paul Bunyan Trophy, and whichever team wins they get to keep it for the year. My old nome de rap (yep) was Paul Bunyan. Coincidence? I think not. Next mission? Getting a flick with that weird wooden statue. I'm gonna do it and you will see it here first. Commitment. I bet you can't wait.

The Shady Family

We took Piper J. out trick-or-treating tonight so that Allison could get candy. I think our simple last year's Shady hoodies freaked folks out. Why? Happy Halloween.

Eminem "Feed Me Words" Freestyle

Back way back before they just switched everything over to mtv.com and moved everything on-line there used to be a different form of MTV Radio. I don't know where it was broadcast originally or what was done with all of it, but our friend Stretch Armstrong had a show or job up there back around '98. I didn't know that this was actually on video, I don't remember a camera, but the audio has been floating around out there for quite a while. As my grandfather Marvin Rosenberg used to say when seeing old photos of himself "Look at that head of hair, boy..."

Thanks to Shaheem for posting this vintage footage... where's the rest?

Chronic Smoked Ribs

I guess Dr. Dre started some new ventures on his visits to the Detroit area that we didn't know about... A relative in the area recently passed me this business card for a BBQ establishment in Detroit. That Dre is one heck of an entrepeneur, huh?
