I meant to post this a while ago, but here's the interview with me and Jude at SXSW this year. I stopped by a dimly lit cave of a studio on the side of The W hotel in Austin on a beautiful, sunny day to find a lonely Jude discussing what Jude discusses. Hear about Jewish pimps, designer drugs, BBQ, Yelawolf and the airport Hilton below.

Adam "MCA" Yauch Tributes
I meant to get this post up sooner, but I just got back from Disney World with the kids and that's not really a trip that you have any extra time on... Anyway, the Beastie Boys have had a profound impact on me. I have been a fan ever since I first saw them debut on the big screen in Krush Groove (which I was completely blown away by, them and the young LL Cool J impromptu "Radio" performance) and at one point I was determined to be IN the group at around 15 years old. I was already completely smitten with rap music since my older brother introduced me to Run-D.M.C.'s debut album, and the fact that 3 white jewish dudes could make a career out of it put a lot of gas in my young tank (pause).
I've personally always credited the Beasties as the original hipsters, crafting everything from ironic facial hair and retro clothing to auteur film making and indie companies (Xtra Large, Grand Royal) as chic and way ahead of the curve. Combine that with their debut LIcensed to Ill and the groundbreaking production and sample usage on Paul's Boutique and that alone is enough to cement them as classic, indescribably important artists of my generation. Obviously it didn't stop there, as Check Your Head and it's follow-up Ill Communication continued their trailblazing talent well into the '90's as both were classic albums themselves.
A couple of my good friends and Shade45 stalwarts DJ Lord Sear and Reef the Streets both shared their Beastie Boys memories with the mix and interview below, and I wanted to make sure that I posted them here for the rest of you to check out.
Adam Yauch will be especially missed by me as an inspiration, musician and cultural icon. Here's to you, in your honor.

Kermit the Frog vs. DJ Whoo Kid
G Unit's DJ Whoo Kid has always amazed me for many, many reasons- not the least of which is the variety and quality of guests he ropes in for interviews. I seriously wouldn't be surprised if he interviews Obama one day. But this one really blows my mind...

Hanukkah Radio 2011
Every year, like we always do about this time (Hanukkah is a moving target because of the Jewish calendar), SiriusXM presents the audio knish known as Shade45's Hanukkah Radio! Myself and Reef the Streets (@NYCreef) took to the mic this year on the eve of the lighting of the first candle on the menorah to celebrate the Festival of Lights with a slew of guests and surprises.
Guest DJ and lantzman Scram Jones was on the on decks spinning tunes from our favorite jewish hip-hop producers along with out co-host and honorary jew for a day Lord Schmear. Check out both hours below and learn about the holiday of Hanukkah and guest call-ins from our 2010 Jew of the Year DJ Drama and the legendary MC Serch of 3rd Bass- as well as our 2011 Jew of the Year young Mac Miller and special in-studio guest none other than the hysterical and talented Action Bronson aka Action Bernstein. If you listen all the way through (for some reason) you can also check out this year's installment of everyone's favorite game show Jew or Not a Jew. Shalom and enjoy! Happy Hanukkah.

Hanukkah Radio- 2010
In case you missed it (which for your sake I hope you did), here is the 2010 installment of Hanukkah Radio from Sirius XM's Shade45. This year myself and Reef the Streets along with Shady Records' own Dro Grindstein brought for another horrible program celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah and the intersection of hip-hop and Judaism.
This year, we nominated a new Jew of the Year, played the famous game Jew or Not a Jew?, interviewed the esteemed author of The Big Payback, Dan Charnas, and had a call-in from none other than Warner Music Group's head honcho Lyor Cohen.
Sit back, grab a sack of latkes, and sip some fine Manishewitz as the poor quality 2-hour program unfolds below. We promise to bring you another installment in 2011. If they let us. Happy Hanukkah!

Rude Jude's Punishment

On Sirius XM's Shade45 today, I took Rude Jude to task for his unscrupulous and disrespectful behavior at Detroit's Comerica Park backstage at the Home and Home Tour. Check out the 3 clips below to learn what Jude's punishment is for the shit he pulled...
P.S. Results of Jude's punishment will be presented next week.

Check out this break with the guys goin at eachother as usual- but this one was really funny. Stick around until after the female caller and the, um, catfish...

Hanukkah Radio 2009- Matisyahu

Reggae artist Matisyahu called up Hanukkah Radio on Shade45 this past shabbat (before sundown, of course) and gave us a very spiritual description of The Festival of Lights, aka Hanukkah. Check out the two segments below, and learn who the long-hair blunt smoking beatboxer at the White Plains house parties was in the mid-90's. Word to Buff Love.
The pic above is myself and Reef the Streets in front of the menorah in the mall at the Time Warner/AOL building shortly after the broadcast. We've got it on latke. Thanks to Matisyahu for making this year's program extra official.

Drake: Jew of the Year

Also from Hanukkah Radio 2009 on Sirius XM's Shade45 is the below phoner from none other than Canada's finest export in rap, Drake. Drake is Jewish, and we asked him some questions about it- including whether a certain event took place when he turned 13. Check out the audio below, and learn why we selected Drake as Hanukkah Radio's Jew of the Year. Somehow I doubt that a Hanukkah album is on the way, but we'd kill to get our hands on those photos from that Italian restaurant... Thanks, Drizzy.
Hanukkah Radio 2009- Jay Electronica
Like we do every year, yesterday we hosted Hanukkah Radio on Sirius XM's Shade45. This year was a bonanza for phone-in interviews, as we had Matisyahu, Drake and Jay Electronica call up and speak about various topics related to the holiday and the Jewish religion. Below check out Jay Electronica's interview and learn why he calls himself Jay Elec-Hanukkah and Jay Elec-yarmulke. I'll post the other interviews tomorrow and/or Sunday!

Floyd Mayweather Vs. R.A. The Ruggedman
In continuing with the classic moments on Sirius XM's Shade45, The All-Out Show had a doozie last week... Frequent guest of Lord Sear and Rude Jude, R.A. the Ruggedman, took Floyd Mayweather to task about the quality of his fighting opponents in the past and where he's headed in the future.
I'm not going to give my opinion here, but R.A. sounds like he did his homework, and Floyd sounds like he knows his business. Forgive my tardiness in posting this, I was friggin' busy.

KRS & Buckshot At Shade45
Below is some video footage from KRS-One & Buckshot's appearance on Shade45 last week. They were up to promote their new collabo album Survival Skills out now on Duckdown Records. These guys are two of my favorite MC's. If you don't get throwback goosebumps from some of the stuff performed below I probably can't relate to you that well. Unless you are my wife.
Yes, I'm really trying to go to Organized Konfusion & PRT show tomorrow night, son.

Rude Jude and the Cuchini
Last week, Rude Jude had the proprietor of a product called the Cuchini on the air for an interview on SiriusXM's Shade45. Check out the audio where Jude discusses the product and it's relation to a monkey's paw. The callers' reactions are below that. Jude wasn't down with the cover-up. I couldn't stop laughing.

DJ Houseshoes on Shade45

Tomorrow night at 6 p,m. EST on SiriusXM's Shade45 check out a special holiday mix of classic Detroit hip-hop, new and old, from the famous (infamous?) DJ Houseshoes. This isn't your average mix- we are talking deep crate digging from the late '80's to present, strictly Detroit status.
Shoes and I go wayyy back to the St. Andrew's 3 Floors of Fun days in Detroit in the mid 90's and beyond. He was close with J. Dilla and carries the torch for Detroit hip-hop as a DJ worldwide. Above is a photo with myself from '07 when Shoes was on the Dilla Changed My Life tour in Berlin. Cop his "King James Version" on iTunes... and if you dare, follow him @houseshoes on Twitter.
I'll post the audio sometime this weekend I hope. You hope.
